Capturing ‘that’ moment – The Sakal Family Maternity Session

One thing that I ADORE about outdoor sessions is that it is far easier to capture a natural moment than it is in a studio environment. Don’t get me wrong, there is a place for studio photography and I love that too but for different reasons (hence why I have a studio). BUT magic really does happen when you place people together like Leah, Dinko and little Scarlett together who are so obviously totally head over heels in love with one another and let them do their thing as their interaction is what I LOVE.

As a photographer it’s so easy to fall into the trap of posing our clients to get ‘that’ shot but what I am realizing as I grow and learn more about my style is that the moments in between getting ‘that’ shot are usually the ones I fall in love with as THEY are the ones who tell the story.

Ryder – Hayley and Alex’s Rainbow Baby

A “rainbow baby” is a baby that is born following a miscarriage or still birth.

In the real world, a beautiful and bright rainbow follows a storm and gives hope of things getting better. The rainbow is more appreciated having just experienced the storm in comparison.

The storm (pregnancy loss) has already happened and nothing can change that experience. Storm-clouds might still be overhead as the family continue to cope with the loss, but something colourful and bright has emerged from the darkness and misery.

I first met Hayley and Alex last year for their maternity session for their first son Jaxon. They were having an early maternity session because they had been told that their little man would not survive birth due to severe heart complications. I was so glad that I could help them capture a few lasting memories of their pregnancy with Jaxon before he was born. It sure was the hardest maternity session I have ever done but I was really surprised by the strength and courage both Hayley and Alex showed and was so glad that they were capturing every moment of their little boys journey. Unfortunatly I was interstate when he was born so couldn’t capture his photos but was so happy that the wonderful Heartfelt was able to take care of them. An amazing organization of volunteer professional photographers all over Australia that are dedicated to capturing photographic memories to families that have experienced stillbirths, premature births, or have children with serious and terminal illnesses. Beautiful bump of Jaxon x

So earlier this year when I received a message from Hayley informing me of their second pregnancy I was over the moon for them. Maternity session was done as planned at 33 weeks however Ryder decided he couldn’t wait and was born just 1 week later at just 34 weeks – 6 weeks premature. Luckily he has his Mum and Dad’s amazing strength and was born a healthy weight and in amazing health and was released from hospital the very next week. Amazing stuff Mr Ryder! He sure is a beautiful little man and it’s great to see Hayley and Alex with their little family together. Even little Jaxon who is taken everywhere with them in the form of the beautiful little giraffe you see in the pics.

Please note that a limited amount of newborns are booked in per month so first in best dressed. At this stage April is the only month that is completely booked out with no further bookings being able to be taken. Goes to show, you need to book in advance or you will miss out.

Newborn sessions are done within the first 2 weeks when they are still nice and squishy so it’s soooo important that you book in advance.

Beautiful Baby Eira

 

It is always an honour to be part of such a special time in a person’s life -to seeing their beautiful baby bump to then meeting their new addition. It really is the best job in the world!

I first met them back in January when Jo and Gavin back in January when she was one of those Mum to be’s that was absolutely glowing. Then a few weeks ago I got to meet their beautiful daughter and first born Eira who had the most beautiful little expressions for me. She decided that she would for the first time in her so far short life stay wide awake for some time and take in her surroundings. This is actually quite common for newborns when they come into my studio. I love it as it gives me the opportunity to capture some beautiful awake photos that most new parents would know aren’t always the easiest thing to capture.

Goodbye 2013 – HELLO 2014 :)

Happy New Year!!!!! As 2013 came to a close, I welcomed in 2014 surrounded by the people I love most. I had the most amazing Christmas period celebrating with some family members who I haven’t seen in a while.
2013 was an amazing year for me both business wise and personally and I plan on making 2014 just as fantastic!

I have so many things in store for 2014 beginning with the completion of my brand new studio! I still haven’t got a date for completion but it is coming together nicely. I am planning on an opening day to celebrate the opening 🙂

With the opening of my studio, the commencement of regular boudoir and glamour sessions will be added to my session itinerary. This is becoming one of the most requested and enquired about shoots and I look forward to being able to offer them on a regular basis. I may even do some kind of opening special to celebrate.

I also plan on using this blog more often. I find writing quite therapeutic and blogging is great way to discuss all kinds of things – I have been thinking about doing a how to guide for all my followers which will have a few tips for you to use when taking happy snaps at home. I would love to hear your thoughts on this and anything else you would like to see included in this.

Simply Glowing

 

Meet the Stone family! I have had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful little family a number of times over this past 12 months but I must say this was the most exciting session with their new addition due in early October! Mum is simply glowing and pregnancy really does suit her. Dad and little Nash are super excited too and for a 2 year old, Mr Nash is so awesome to photograph! He is such a good little man and has the gorgeous nickname of Pebbles for his little sibling. This little bub is my first of many due in October 2013. It has been booked out for 2 months now and I’m also heading away for a much needed family holiday so will be a super busy month for me 🙂

Beautiful Baby Bumps

Last week was my first maternity session in a month or so but the first of many with 6 more booked in this coming fortnight alone! Seems everyone is having babies this November/December! Made me wonder if they were all conceived when we had those massive storms here earlier in the year lol It’s always a massive complement for me as a relatively ‘new photographer’ to have people choose me to capture such special moments in their lives x

Anyway, thought I would share a few photos. This shoot was of my friend Kirsty and her husband Chris. She was 35 weeks on the day of the shoot and pregnancy def suits her! She truly is glowing (unlike me when I was pregnant lol). Enjoy 🙂
